In a year of so much loss, Hannah’s death is another reminder that the status quo is cruel and untenable. We have no choice but to fight to make the world a more compassionate, joyful, and attentive place. RIP. – katie jane fernelius

Hannah Colton, you are such a visionary newsroom leader, a fierce champion of justice, and one of the kindest people I ever met. I am struggling to imagine a world without your voice and impact. Hannah’s commitment to community cannot be overstated. She radiated it. We met in Alaska; danced too much at the Alaska Press Club. But the day after the 2016 election, I was lucky to spend the whole day with her in Chicago. We got free admission to the planetarium. The light found her. – Emily Kwong
